Local Plan 2040 Draft Plan - Strategy options and draft policies consultation

Representation ID: 4418

Received: 31/08/2021

Respondent: Miss Andrea Witham

Representation Summary:

What happened to the options in the 2030 LP?
The idea that Dennybrook will only be 2,500 homes is misleading and some local residents have misunderstood this. See the recent 'Denybrook Information Leaflet' just released by Taylor Wimpey in which they propose more like 10,000 homes.
Decision on which site to chose should be made by Borough Councillors at full council and not left to the Mayor. Permit Councillor Moon to vote in place of Tom Wootton as the latter is conflicted re Dennybrook.

What happened to the options listed in the 2030 Local Plan but which are not represented in this one? There is just one small statement saying that other options are available in the summary leaflet and we believe this is misleading – most people will only respond based on the summary document and are unlikely to look up the alternative options.
The suggestion that Dennybrook would only be 2,500 new homes is completely misleading, especially has Taylor Wimpey has now released the 'Denybrook Information Leaflet' (to be delivered to local homes) which states 'Taylor Wimpey are proposing Denybrook Garden Community as a possible location for a new settlement, comprising a series of linked villages providing up to 10,000 new homes...'
There are some residents who have been mislead by the Local Plan into thinking that the development will be restricted to 2,500 homes, and are in favour of this without understanding the full picture and the implications.
I think that the decision about which sites to choose for development should be made at full council with Borough Councillors being given the opportunity to vote on it. The decision should not be made by the Mayor of Bedford’s executive powers.
