Local Plan 2040 Draft Plan - Strategy options and draft policies consultation

Representation ID: 4738

Received: 01/09/2021

Respondent: Mr David Rawlins

Representation Summary:

Not all options are fully disclosed in the consultation. People will base their replies on misleading information.
Site 977 Dennybrook is proposed to provide many more than the 2,500 homes implied by the consultation.
The decision about which sites to choose for development should be made at full council with Borough Councillors being given the opportunity to vote on it. The decision should not be made by the Mayor of Bedford’s executive powers.

There are options listed in the 2030 Local Plan but which are not represented in this consultation. There is just one small statement in the summary leaflet saying that other options are available and we believe this is misleading – most people will only respond based on the summary document and are unlikely to look up the alternative options in the 2030 Plan.
The suggestion that Dennybrook (site 977) would be restricted to 2,500 new homes is utterly misleading - Taylor Wimpey has now released the 'Denybrook Information Leaflet' (to be delivered to local homes) which states 'Taylor Wimpey are proposing Denybrook Garden Community as a possible location for a new settlement, comprising a series of linked villages providing up to 10,000 new homes...' and the Leaflet provides a plan of the entire development.
There are some residents who have been misled by the Local Plan into thinking that the development will be restricted to 2,500 homes, and are in favour of this without understanding the full picture and the implications.
I think that the decision about which sites to choose for development should be made at full council with Borough Councillors being given the opportunity to vote on it. The decision should not be made by the Mayor of Bedford’s executive powers.
