Bedford Borough Local Plan 2040 Plan for Submission

Representation ID: 9085

Received: 05/07/2022

Respondent: Mr Robin Elder

Legally compliant? Yes

Sound? No

Duty to co-operate? No

Representation Summary:

The Council is hell bent on development (more housing, more railways, faster roads) rather than the QUALITY of living for residents. The Council is driving down the QUALITY of living in Bedford.

Full text:

How would I know if it is legally compliant! I was forced to tick that box.

The complaint is that although the plan does mention greener/better place there are very few steps to ensure this. I am and have been a resident of Bedford and enjoy the environment but it is spoilt by too much traffic moving too fast, cyclists on pavements and now electric scooters also using the pavements. There is little or nothing in the plan to improve these matters despite them being persistent matters of issue in the locality. Bedford could be a much better place to live but the Council is hell bent on development (more housing, more railways, faster roads) rather than QUALITY.

There are specific developments in particular areas but what is required is a grown up holistic approach to QUALITY which can be enjoyed by all.

Bedford Borough Local Plan 2040 Plan for Submission

Representation ID: 10279

Received: 29/07/2022

Respondent: Roxton Parish Council

Representation Summary:

Theme 4 mentions high quality health and social care. It is imperative to improve these services as currently they are inadequate for the Bedfordshire villages. We know for example in the Roxton area that our local surgeries are already overcrowded even before the 90 houses in Great Barford and forthcoming 50 in Roxton.
Any housing quantity plan must consider the impact on local infrastructure and facilities. RPC would like to see more publicised supporting evidence and consultation of local people and Parish Councils when developers state that existing facilities and infrastructure have available capacity to cope with growth. Such statements do not always match the evidence available in the local communities on a day-to-day basis.
