Local Plan 2040 Draft Plan - Strategy options and draft policies consultation

3.14

Representation ID: 3755

Received: 23/08/2021

Respondent: Carlton and Chellington Parish Council

Representation Summary:

• Section 3.29 states: The main area where additional [traffic] mitigation is not identifiable is on the A6 approach to Bedford from the north.
• In the absence of currently deliverable railway stations at either [Colworth/Twinwoods] location which might make an impact, the capacity issues here are too great to allow further development on the A6 (north) corridor such as the new settlements proposed at Twinwoods and / or Colworth.
As there is obviously no capacity, or available mitigations for the A6 options 3-7 are not workable.

Representation Summary:

2c creates the best transport infrastructure around which to develop.
The Wixams, Stewartby and Kempston Hardwick railway stations and links to East West rail will aid local employment and create new opportunities for commuting . The nearby existing road network and links from M1 to A1, will also aid employment opportunities.

Proximity to Bedford gives the best opportunity for the regeneration of Bedford centre as a workplace and for leisure and retail.
New settlements at Wyboston and Little Barford have excellent north/south access, as well as to the A421 for Milton Keynes and 428 for Cambridge.
