EV car clubs
Car clubs are a way for people to hire a car for a short period, usually for a particular journey. This gives access to the benefits of a car without the long term costs and responsibilities of owning one.
There is already a car club EV available for hire in Bedford, from the Riverside car park. We will consider expanding this provision and making car club EVs available at other sites. If we proceed with this, we may include additional chargepoints at some sites, to provide for the car club vehicles.
Car clubs are usually run on a commercial basis, and have the best potential to work in urban areas. In villages there may not be enough users to make a car club business viable. However, community car clubs and other sharing schemes have been set up elsewhere, and we could provide information on these options for residents who might be interested in setting them up.
