Local Plan 2040 Draft Plan - Strategy options and draft policies consultation

Representation ID: 4397

Received: 31/08/2021

Respondent: Mr Kulwinder Rai

Representation Summary:

BCC fundamentally misunderstands the nature and motivation of self-builders. Forcing developers to allocate a certain percentage of their sites as self-build plots is a positive idea but it will not meet the needs of the vast majority of those who wish to build their own houses. BCC has permitted developers to create massive estates of tedious, 'identikit' houses over the last decade. The last thing most self-builders will want to do is invest themselves in creating a truly unique dwelling when they know that it will be sat in the midst of such mediocrity.
